Last month when this old bag of creeky bones turned 39, my lovely wife @reeseshara surprised me with tickets to go see Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden. I was beyond stoked and have been looking forward this show since I ripped open that card like a 9 year old. Well that day has arrived! Today we will make the long treacherous journey into the city to putz around for a few hours before seeing one of my all time favorite artists.
This will be my second time attending one of his shows, although the first time was about 20 years ago. That show was also at the Garden. It will be Sharese’s first. I am thrilled that she gets to see him as well. I’m usually the one tagging along to her concerts so this time the tables have turned….even if she was the one to buy me the tickets.
I am a bit nervous about one thing regarding the show. He has a beautiful song called Lullabye that is one of my favorites by him. If you are unfamiliar with this song, do yourself a favor and go check it out below Simply a beautiful tune.
I have loved this song since the first time I heard it over 25 years ago, but I have been unable to listen to it since my pup Kitano passed away in September of last year. I thought it would be a beautiful tune to say goodbye to him to so I played him off to it as I held him and cried mightily onto him. I have tried a couple of times in the past few months but once I start it I immediately just lose myself and end up in a dark place reliving that moment over and over again. I am truly afraid that I will be a disaster if he plays it. Fuck, I already lost it writing this and hearing the start when I posted the link above. Anyway, that is my struggle today. Love you Tano and I miss you and your brother every second of the day.
Sorry for the bummer moment…Of course it’s been fairly nice weather for the past week…except today. Cloudy skies and drizzling all day. Dem da breaks and the price of admission to see a legend today so I am cool with it. It will impact our plans a bit which were to get to the city midday and grab a tasty dirty water dog, walk around, and just soak it all in. Looks like the only soaking that will be happening is with out jackets and clothes though. (ugh…dad jokes are the worst)
While we are only about 70 miles from the city, it just kinda takes an eternity to get there. I love it when I am there. There is nothing quite like the magic that the city possesses, but getting in and out makes me want to temple punch babies. It’s simply the worst, but once I am there I want to sooth the baby that I just punched…just to want to punch it again at the end of the evening when about to head back home all tired and soggy. Ugh…
We are going to drive up about 40 minutes to the Cheesequake rest area off the Garden State Parkway, then take an Academy bus into the Port Authority. My wife still has some bus credits from when she used to commute into the city for her job and we figured why not use those puppies today!
Once in, I am excited to go see my good buddy @steemmatt. I am not only looking forward to seeing and catching up with him in person but to have him and my wife meet. Matt and I ended up sitting next to each other at one of the dinners by chance at SteemFest in Krakow. We both told awkward jokes that usually only the other would laugh at and enjoyed it immensely when the other would bomb and go down in flames at the table with our newfound internet friends. Awkward humor brought us together along with traveling the same flights and path back to the states. We exchanged numbers like a cute new couple would and have been a couple of chatty Cathy’s ever since.
Figured we can grab some grub and a few beers or something. We wanted to just walk around the city for a few hours as I love just taking it in but the shitty weather looks like it is forcing us to be indoor alcoholics…and I am not one to argue with mother nature. So I hope you all have an amazing day today as you are NOT being serenaded by Mr. William Joel, and NOT sharing beers with @steemmatt, and NOT…I…think that’s actually it.
